Riya, a 15-year-old girl from Khushipura, faced numerous obstacles in her pursuit of education. Due to household chores and societal expectations, she often struggled to keep up with her studies, especially in STEM subjects. In her school, she couldn’t find support because of a lack of teachers for Science and Maths. She was disheartened and believed that she wouldn’t pass her board exams. Through the Sahasi Girls after-school program, Riya received targeted support and tutoring, which helped clarify difficult concepts and sparked her interest in science and mathematics. Over time, her academic performance improved significantly, and she gained confidence in her abilities. She passed her board exams with flying colours. She is ready to embark on her journey to college education.
Riya’s story exemplifies how educational support and empowerment can
transform the lives of girls, enabling them to pursue their dreams despite societal
challenges.
